Windshield replacement falls under the comprehensive portion of your insurance, not the collision portion. A cracked windshield does not reflect your driving ability and has no bearing on your level of risk to the insurance company. Therefore replacing your windshield will not influence your insurance premiums.*

Information you should know

When dealing with cracked windshields, it's important not to procrastinate. Several factors can cause cracked windshield's or chipped windshield's defects to worsen:

Natural vibrations, occurring while driving can cause windshields to crack further.
Extreme temperatures (hot and/or cold) put a tremendous stress on chipped or cracked windshields which can result in further damage. For example:
- Your vehicle under direct sunlight on a hot summer day.
- Washing your car on a hot day.
- Defrosting your windshield on a cold day.

Windshields containing damage within the driver's line of sight should be replaced. Such windshields are a hazard since the driver's vision can be impared by them. Finally, a couple of other points to note about chipped or cracked windshields:
